In 2008, while attending a life insurance training seminar, Tej Shah and Joe Palmer discovered a major flaw in the industry. Billions of dollars in policies were going unclaimed every single year, leaving families to struggle after the loss of a loved one. After speaking to many experienced insurance professionals, it became clear that the only way your loved ones can inherit your wealth is by knowing exactly where it is. Can you imagine if your financial investments, life insurance policies, and savings simply sat there, or even went to the state, rather going into the hands of your loved ones? How would you even know if this happened?

As our idea grew into a functioning business model, we came to realize that many of our own friends and family have experienced similar hardship because they could not find the appropriate assets, or because the assets went into probate. There had to be an easier way to do this. WeRemember.org was created to avoid such confusion and eliminate so many policies from going unclaimed.

An important part of our foundation is our ties to the non-profit community and dedication to philanthropy. Shortly after we put together our initial business plan, we attended an annual benefit that supports a local cancer organization. At the benefit, we realized how difficult it is for most non-profit organizations to raise the funds they need to continue to help the community; these organizations are often overlooked and taken for granted, but the truth is, we rely so heavily in what these people do. Since then, WeRemember.org has dedicated a significant portion of gross revenue to be allocated towards various non-profit organizations and charities. We also took our initiative a step further and have a separate department dedicated to assisting non-profits by creating fundraisers.
